Animations-The Crème de la crème of Movies
So the other day I was watching Rio,a well-crafted comedy-adventure centered on Blu, a rare macaw bird who thinks he is the last of his kind. When Blu discovers there's another - and that she's a she - he leaves the comforts of his cage in small town Minnesota and heads to Rio. The story continues with Blu having to pass through the harsh life of the wild. Both of my siblings were there with me - one older and the other way much younger. I must admit that that was one of the few 'feel-good moments' I have had brought about by a motion picture. And it got me thinking - what on earth do people mean when they say they don't watch animations!
At my place of work, clients come in looking for a hilarious flick to tickle their fancy & when I suggest to them animations, they go like 'sionangi izo za watoto!'.That only leaves me with one feeling for them-pity!They don't have the slightest idea of what they are missing.Animated films transcend the boundaries of age(except for the sing-alongs in the category of Dora)! They connect you to the inner,younger,easy-going you as they take you to a world of fantasy, magic or simply the famous fairy tale story.I wouldn't mind living in a world of animated films only - though I would need to see a film with real people so as not to be lost in fantasy world!
I believe anyone who has passed through childhood(basically everyone!),has a brief understanding of cartoons-the likes of Flintsones,Pink Panther,Tom & Jerry,Jetsons,Top Cat,Scooby,Roadrunner...I am not so ol'skul so you can tell how old I am by my sampling! These make up most of my childhood memories in as far as watching telly was concerned. These have been replaced with the present day cartoons like The Simpsons,Boondocks,South park,Family Guy,American Dad, just to name a few.
Creating classics that stand the test of time is what Walt Disney Animation Studios is all about. They have been bringing us animated adventures for over 75 years! They have given us some of the best animations of the century like Pinocchio,Fantasia,Lion King,Peter Pan,Snow white & the 7 dwarfs(which was the world's first full colour animation),Beauty and the beast,Bambi,Cinderella,Sleeping beauty,Aladdin and the most recent one being The Princess and the frog,Those are just some of the remarkable titles they have under their name.
My favourites have always been Pixar Animation Studios. These guys are just the illest! None of their movies ever disappoints-I have not come across one of them that is boring! They gave us Monsters Inc.,Up,Ratatouille,Wall-E,Cars 1 & 2,The Incredibles,Finding Nemo,A Bugs Life and most of all, Toy Story-the rare sequel that lives up to its predecessor.
Lemme try and rate my top 14 animations thus far:(couldn't get any more random...14?)
14.How to Train your Dragon
13.Lion King
12.The Princess & the Frog
11.Shrek
10.Tom & Jerry

8.Ice age
7.The Incredibles
6.Pink Panther
